創立名誉指揮者 朝比奈 隆
1908年東京生まれ。ヴァイオリンをアレクサンドル・モギレフスキー、指揮をエマヌエル・メッテルに学ぶ。1931年京都帝国大学法学部卒業、1937年同大学文学部哲学科卒業。1940年新交響楽団（現NHK交響楽団）を指揮してデビュー。大阪中央放送局（現NHK）専属指揮者を務めるかたわら、外務省の委嘱により中国にわたり、戦時中は上海交響楽団、ハルビン交響楽団等で活躍。
1947年関西交響楽団（現・大阪フィルハーモニー交響楽団）を設立。2001年に没するまで55年にわたり、音楽総監督・常任指揮者をつとめ、強い信頼関係を築いてきた。ベートーヴェン、ブルックナー、ブラームスといった独墺音楽を中心に、恩師メッテルの母国であったロシア音楽など幅広いレパートリーを手がけた。録音も数多く、ベートーヴェン交響曲全集を7度、ブルックナー、ブラームス交響曲全集をそれぞれ3度発表。
海外においては、1953年、初の欧州指揮旅行以来、ベルリン･フィル、北ドイツ放送響、シカゴ響など、世界各地のオーケストラ、歌劇場に客演、その数は70以上に及ぶ。国内では大阪フィルのほか、新日本フィル、東京都響、NHK響などと数多く共演。また、1949年には関西オペラグループ（現関西歌劇団）を組織するなど、オペラの振興・発展にも尽力した。
受賞歴は、NHK放送文化賞、芸術院賞、ドイツ連邦共和国大功労十字章、朝日賞、毎日芸術賞、紫綬褒章、勲三等旭日中綬章、オーストリア連邦共和国一等十字勲章ほか多数。1989年文化功労者に選ばれ、1994年文化勲章を受章。2001年の10月まで第一線で活躍、現役を貫いた。同年12月29日、神戸にて死去。
Takashi Asahina（1908‐2001）
Founding honorary conductor of Osaka Philharmonic Orchestara
Born in 1908 in Tokyo. Majored in Law at Kyoto Imperial University and Philosophy in Graduate school of Kyoto Imperial University. He studied violin and viola under Prof. Alexander Mogilevsky and condudting under Emmanuel Metter and Leonid Kreutzer. He made his professional debut in 1940, conducting Tchaikovsky’s fifth symphony with Shin Orchestra, which is NHK Symphony Orchestra now.
During the world War II, he was sent to China by the Japanese government and conducted Shanghai Symphony orchestra (1943-44) and Harbin Symphony Orchestra (1944-45). After the war, he came back to Japan, and then he founded the Kansai Symphony orchestra (Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra now). He led OPO as the General Music Director for 55 years, just before the his passing at 93.
Since 1953, he was frequently invited from foreign orchestra including Berliner Philharmonic, the NDR Sinfonie Orchester, Chicago Symphony Orchestra etc.
Well known for numerous recordings- especially Beethoven complete symphonies. At the same time, he’s got a high reputation for the performance of Bruckner.
Rewarded Commander’s cross of the order of merit from the Federal Republic of Germany, Officer’s Cross for Science and Art from the Federal Republic of Austria. In 1994, he was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit which is the most honourable award for artists in Japan.
His conducted Tchaikovsky’s fifth symphony in Nagoya on 23 October which became his last concert. He passed away in Kobe on 29 December, 2021.
